The Historic Dockyard Chatham is recognised as the world’s most complete and best preserved dockyard of the Age of Sail. The site is eighty acres in size and has over 100 buildings and structures, with the majority constructed between 1704 and 1855.
Visitors are able to explore three historic warships, a working Victorian ropery, historic lifeboat collection, Dockyard railway, Hearts of Oak digital theatre and play areas, plus collections from two national museums.
As well as these attractions, the Dockyard offers a varied programme of events and activities throughout the year. For these events, the Dockyard’s Trust was looking for tables for visitors to use.
Trent Furniture were used to supply 100 American style trestle folding tables, these tables are commonly used for functions and events. The folding leg function is especially convenient when the tables are used on an occasional basis and need to be stored away when not required – an ideal choice for the Trust.
Alana Marie Almond, events executive at Chatham Historic Dockyard, commented: “When my other supplier let me down, we decided to use Trent because of their quality and price match. Our visitors were delighted with the first event they were used for.”
Salute to the 40s is a long-standing major fundraiser for the Trust – it is one of Britain’s biggest vintage festivals and attracts thousands of people. A selection of 1940s entertainers, singers and dancers perform as well as military and home front displays, air displays, vehicle parades and vintage fashion. The tables added to the street party catering style at the event.
The next event at Chatham Historic Dockyards that our furniture will be used for is the Festival of Steam and Transport on the 16th and 17th April 2017.
The work of the Trust contributes at least £16m to the local economy each year. We’re pleased to have helped to improve fundraising events with the use of new furniture.
