Coldharbour Lane is a road that runs through Harpenden, a town in Hertfordshire. On this road lies the only allotment club in the country that has its own private bar on site – but that’s not the only reason why it’s a popular choice for gardeners.
A very special allotment club
Coldharbour Lane Allotment Club is a private club, rather than one run by a local council.
Surrounded by over 100 allotment plots, is the club has its own clubhouse named The Potting Shed.
The clubhouse was built in 1993 and is now used to host social events for club members. The club’s extensive program of events helps to generate the funds needed for the upkeep of the allotment. As you can tell, the social side of the club makes it much more than just an allotment for gardeners. It’s so popular that there is even a waiting list to join!
The club furniture refurbishment
The clubhouse was originally built by the members themselves and has recently undergone a refurbishment with redecorating and new furniture. The club was looking to furnish the space with new club furniture that had a traditional pub-esque appearance.
“The Admiral chairs are the same as some of the ones we wanted replace and we found Trent Furniture to be competitive and very friendly on the phone when I was placing the order and in subsequent conversations,” explains Lynda Barlow, club secretary.
The Admirals chair is a classic pub style chair which is still extremely popular in club houses and hotels as well as pubs. The club chose to have their dark oak finished Admiral chairs supplied with cream upholstery.
The new seating matches the interior seamlessly and the clubhouse now has a new, fresh look. So, that’s the club house’s interior completed. All the gardeners need now are some deck chairs to enjoy the summer weather on!
