The 'staycation' trend first seen during the early part of the recession shows no sign of abating, with the news that 38 million Britons are expected to add to the strain on UK hotel furniture in 2016.
Figures from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance show that 75% of adults in the UK plan a domestic getaway in the coming 12 months - an estimated 38 million.
This compares with just 67% (34 million) who plan to head abroad, and 58% who intend to take at least one holiday overseas and at least one in the UK too during 2016.
More Brits have saved up (14%) to cover the cost of their holiday than intend to put the full amount on a credit card (8%) and pay it off gradually later - perhaps another indication of the lessons learned during the recession about living within your means.
In terms of the type of holiday planned by 'staycationers' for 2016, city breaks are out on top with 27% of British adults intending to spend some time in an urban area - perhaps making it particularly important for city centre establishments to ensure they are fully equipped with modern hotel furniture to cater for this market.
Perhaps surprisingly, second on the list are beach holidays with a 13% share of the vote - flying in the face of claims that the British seaside resort is no longer in demand.
A healthy 10% of Britons plan a walking holiday, and this could make durable hotel furniture a good idea for those establishments whose guests are likely to arrive back from a day's hike muddy or rain-soaked, and immediately want to sit down and relax.
Completing the list, 8% of staycationers plan to take a spa holiday; 6% intend to take a sports or activity break in 2016; and 5% plan an itinerary based around the arts and culture, or food and drink.
Whatever the purpose of their trip, the statistics support the belief that the UK remains a compelling holiday destination even for people who already live here - and that the domestic market alone will keep hotel furniture occupied for much of the coming year.
