Falling on a Wednesday, notoriously a difficult night for the restaurant trade, restaurants may be looking at a quieter evening than usual on Valentine’s Day itself in 2018. At the furthest point from the weekend, many couples schedule their romance for a longer getaway on the weekend prior or after the day itself. That's when couples do their major celebrating.
Restaurants should be prepared to extend their Valentine’s Day offerings over the period and expect to have an influx of bookings on the weekends around the day. While couples main plans will be for the weekend, they will still look and feel inclined to do something on the day itself. Albeit less excessive than weekend plans, some will venture through your doors – especially the traditionalists.
Brits spend in the region of £1bn every Valentine’s Day. With lovers keen to impress, how can you get more couples to come to your restaurant on Valentine’s Day 2018?
Entertainment factor
Entertainment is a way of getting those who expect more than a meal through your doors on Valentine’s Day. By organising a singer or gentle music group for diners to listen to, an extra air of romance will be added to the evening and it’s a low-priced differentiator from competition.
Special offers
An offer that’s good enough will get even the most cost-conscious couples out of their houses. Some offers that you could run with include a complimentary glass of bubbly if you come on the Wednesday, a free bottle of wine if you visit on the Wednesday and on the weekend or a reasonably priced set menu or early-bird dining menu.
If you have the facilities and think it fits with your brand, to save couples leaving their home, you could organise a special home delivery service for one night only. Whatever you decide, make sure your potential customers know about it.
Giving couples space
On such a big night for the restaurant trade, it can be tempting to cram in as many customers as possible. However, this is counter-intuitive and can affect your restaurant’s image. Leave ample space so that the night is intimate, warm and personal. If you provide a nice service and do the above, you’ll be the first port of call for next year’s Valentine’s Day.
Having space is also nice for the odd proposal, too.
Getting restaurant furniture right
Customers will be expecting a faultless service and dining experience on the day. This includes your interior. If your restaurant furniture is looking tired and outdated, it might be time for you to get some new tables and chairs to breathe new life into your restaurant.
