Would-be toastmasters can practise their trade in comfort with the right club furniture - which is often similar to the kinds of banqueting furniture used at the types of events where they will make their speeches.
For the past 88 years, Toastmasters International has worked on the premise that "we learn in moments of enjoyment", as stated by its founder Dr Ralph C Smedley.
The organisation was created in 1924 to provide a practice environment for after-dinner speaking, and now has over 13,500 clubs in 116 countries worldwide.
Daniel Rex, executive director of Toastmasters International as it is today, says: "Dr Smedley laid the framework for the Toastmasters 'learn by doing' model."
Private members' clubs keen to create a similarly innovative environment in which their members can relax, share and develop ideas should be careful to invest in the right kind of club furniture to foster an atmosphere of enjoyment.
That could include comfortable seating which provides the necessary support to individuals who are practising their after-dinner speech for an extended period.
Alternatively, stackable seating is a popular choice among club furniture, and allows space to be created when necessary - particularly appealing to those who want to practise their speech while standing or pacing.
