A Cornwall cricket club opened its doors recently, with club furniture supplied by Trent Furniture and the ribbon cut by Sir Tim Rice.
Sir Tim is a patron of the club, and an avid cricket fan in his own right, so was the obvious choice to mark the official opening of the new pavilion at Grampound Road Cricket Club.
New club furniture in the lounge and bar areas complement the new changing facilities and shower rooms as part of a lavish £450,000 refurbishment.
It was officially opened on August 14th, with a special match between Grampound Road CC and MCC in front of an audience that included representatives of some of the funding bodies who supported the refurbishment.
The England and Wales Cricket Board put a £100,000 grant towards the work, with a further £47,000 coming from the National Lottery funded 'Protected Playing Fields' initiative operated by Sport England.
And the money was well spent, with a focus on making the pavilion - and the choice of club furniture - as comfortable as possible in the short term, while also ensuring it is durable for the long term.
Rob Price, director of Trent Furniture, said: "We were delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile community project.
"We know that our furniture will be a good investment by the club because it is long-lasting and durable, so will be able to be used by the local community for many, many years to come."
The club is now celebrating its 80th year, making it a fitting landmark moment to undertake such an extensive refurbishment and open the new pavilion.
And it is not only one team that will benefit from the new facilities; Grampound Road is the home of no fewer than nine local teams, all of which will now be able to make use of the changing rooms and showers, as well as the lounge and bar.
David Dane, treasurer of the club, said the funding grants that went into the project represent "an investment in cricket at the club in the future and will be for the long-term benefit of the local village community".
