The Small Business Rate Relief initiative has been extended, potentially unlocking even more funds for pub furniture replacements and refreshes.
Chancellor George Osborne took the opportunity in his Autumn Statement to highlight the £1,000 of rate relief introduced last year for high street shops, cafes and pubs.
To coincide with this weekend's Small Business Saturday (December 6th), he announced that the scheme is being extended for a further year - rather than being scrapped, as he said the previous government wanted to do.
He said: "The last government were going to close it but it benefits half a million firms, means a third of a million firms pay no rates, and we'll continue to fund it."
For the coming year, a further 50% increase means high street shops, pubs and cafes can all benefit to a maximum of £1,500 each.
The British Beer & Pub Association welcomed the news, with chief executive Brigid Simmonds saying she is "very pleased" that the rate relief has been extended.
"The increase in the retail relief to £1,500 is more good news that will benefit 64% of pubs. Overall, over 70% of pubs will receive retail relief," she added.
According to Ms Simmonds, pubs pay out as much as 10% of their operating costs simply to cover their business rates.
She continued: "As well as getting bills down, we need to make it easier for pubs to appeal their rates bills and make the system more responsive to changing business conditions.
"The government is certainly giving increasing attention to this important issue for pubs."
For pubs that are able to benefit from the rate relief scheme, this should help to decrease costs, increase profitability, and hopefully leave more funds available for other planned expenditure.
With no guarantees that the same relief will be available in future years - particularly if the structure of government changes following the general election - it makes good sense to use this year's allowance for investment where possible.
This could include taking the opportunity to refresh tired old pub furniture, or simply to buy some new comfortable chairs or sofas to add to your existing selection of seating.
