Restaurant furniture is likely to be harder to find on the nation's high streets, with the news that the total number of furniture stores open nationwide dropped in the first half of 2012.
The figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers group home furnishing and furniture shops together, meaning retailers of domestic sofas and dining sets, and specialist restaurant furniture dealers alike are feeling the hit at the moment.
Overall, a net change of -54 units was seen in the category between January and June, accounting for over a third (36.7%) of all home furnishing and furniture outlets included in the survey.
"Relatively long leases, with inflexible terms, have been entered into in a growth phase of the economy which is no longer appropriate," admits PwC insolvency partner and retail specialist Mike Jervis.
