The UK Tea Council has dismissed many of the most common reasons to give up drinking tea, highlighting why cafe furniture is likely to continue to see many tea-drinkers indulging their passion in 2013.
However, it's not simply about catering for an unhealthy obsession with tea - in fact, many of the reasons to drink the decidedly British beverage are because of its positive impacts on health.
According to the organisation, four cups of ordinary tea per day delivers just enough caffeine to keep the brain alert, without making people "go hyper".
Black tea (in terms of the leaves used, not whether or not it contains milk) has the same antioxidant qualities as green tea, the UK Tea Council adds.
Milk-free tea contains zero calories too, although milk is a good source of calcium - so if you drink tea with skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, you shouldn't be doing too much damage to your health.
Obviously, tea contains plenty of fluids - and these are equally effective for hydration as an equivalent-sized glass of water.
And the relative purity of tea leaves make them an ideal option for anyone whose New Year resolution is to detox by cutting out additives.
Together, the arguments present a compelling case for why traditional tea houses should continue to see their cafe furniture in demand among Britons in 2013, despite the continued invasion of American coffee-shop chains.
