Whether it’s the constant moving around by customers or the never-ending amount of use that it endures, restaurant furniture has a demanding life which can mean that its lifespan may be much shorter than residential furniture.
Maintaining your restaurant’s tables, chairs, stools and booths is important and should be part of quality control. Ultimately, the condition of furniture can impact heavily on customers’ dining experiences.
By using the highest quality materials and manufacturing processes, at Trent Furniture, we pride ourselves on the longevity as standard in every product we supply. However, we do have some suggestions to help maintain restaurant furniture for as long as possible.
Cleaning
Most materials used in restaurant furniture are easy to care for. However, there are specific duties of care for each material when cleaning. Generally:
- Wood should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and spray. For cleaning stains, use a slightly dampened cloth and rub along the grain of the wood. Wipe dry after cleaning.
- Stainless steel, aluminium and laminates can all be cleaned with mild soap and water.
- For leather products, it is advisable to get a suitable leather cleaning kit as different leathers have different needs. However, a damp cloth can be used for spot cleaning and dusting. Corn starch can be used to remove stains and grease marks.
- For fabrics and upholstery, stains can be removed with a dry cotton cloth. A vacuum cleaner or brush can be used to remove crumbs and mess.
We recommend using our Relay Spray for everyday cleaning sanitising of table tops during service. The sanitiser has a specially designed formula which is safer and more pleasant for both the user and your customers.
Maintenance
Using furniture on a regular basis is bound to damage the joints and loosen the fixings of furniture. For this reason, restaurant owners should periodically inspect their furniture to check that joints or bolts have not worked loose.
This check should involve testing all chairs and tables. To make sure screws are secure in chairs and barstools, press firmly on the seat with two hands and notice any wobble. Welded, metal chairs are a lot less prone to loose joints and screws.
The same should be done for tables: there is nothing more frustrating for customers of a restaurant than sitting at a wobbly table. If the table moves upon force, tighten or replace screws. Sofas, booths or upholstery should also be checked regularly for any rips. This is because small tears can often be repaired before they grow.
Making checks and regular adjustments to furniture can extend restaurant furniture’s life-span and ensure a better customer experience.
