Regular readers of our articles will know that we've touched before on the importance of providing hotel furniture that caters for all guests - including singles, couples and family groups, and individuals of all ages.
Nobody should walk into one of your rooms and feel as though it is tailored to somebody else's needs, and while designated family suites are one way to provide extra space for parents with young children, it can also be useful to provide spaces in your regular rooms for family groups to relax together.
According to consumer analysts Mintel, 61% of parents feel as though they spend less time with their children than they used to do, and only 23% find mealtimes - one of the main opportunities for the whole family to sit together - to be relaxing.
Yet 62% of parents find it relaxing watching TV with their children, and 47% of mums say this is one time when their whole family comes together.
In many cases, TVs in hotel rooms are provided almost as an afterthought, with them positioned to be watched by just one or two people either on or in the room's bed, but hoteliers could be missing a valuable opportunity to provide a better space for family groups.
Where you have the room to do so - and especially in family suites - consider adding a comfortable sofa to the room, to give people a place to sit that is more like their own living room at home.
A three-seater can be enough space for parents with young children to all cuddle up together, while even a two-seater sofa is sufficient for parents with one small child.
Richard Cope, senior trends consultant at Mintel, said: "Relaxation is something that almost two thirds of respondents associate with TV viewing."
A sofa is a surprisingly versatile piece of hotel furniture - catering for larger groups, while offering individual guests somewhere to sprawl out and relax without seeming excess to their needs.
Best of all, the right size of sofa for the room can help to create a sense of more space, by providing a focal point for the room's furniture, giving guests an even more positive impression of your facilities.
