When investing in new hotel furniture, it can be tempting to try for a one-size-fits-all approach, and while hotel furniture is designed to cater for this need for versatility, it's worth making sure you have something for guests of all ages too.
Research from Saga reveals that one in seven people aged over 50 have taken a holiday with their children and grandchildren - and often these older travellers have the spending power, with one in three saying they have in the past paid for their entire family's trip at an average cost of £4,000.
One in six grandparents also go on holiday with their grandchildren to give the parents some time to themselves - further highlighting the combinations of different generations that might book rooms in your hotel together.
Kevin McMullan, head of travel insurance for Saga, said: "It's great to see so many families going away and spending quality time together. A lot of over-50s are making this happen by being so generous and paying for the trip.
"Going on holiday with the whole family is great for everyone ... The real winners of these holidays though are the kids as they get to spend time with all their favourite adults."
It's worth adding some child-friendly items to your next hotel furniture order, not only to cater for these multi-generation clientele, but also because they can make excellent use of the available space.
A small tub chair or leather cube stool, for instance, provides even quite small children with a comfy perch, but can also be used by adult guests when necessary - and either can fit into a corner or alcove, or by the foot of the bed, without using a large amount of floor space.
In larger rooms meanwhile, consider a three-seater sofa that parents or grandparents could sit on with young children together, while when the room is not booked for a family group, solo guests may welcome the comfort of being able to sprawl across a sofa on their own.
Hotel furniture is wonderfully versatile in many such ways - making it possible for you to stamp your own style on the interiors of your rooms, while still making sure you cater for the market demand from guests of all ages.
