So, you’ve decided that the time has come to refurnish your restaurant, café or bar. Great news! The period can be an exciting time as you’re giving your establishment a facelift that could change the fortunes of your business.
But when the new furniture arrives, what are your plans for disposing of your current furniture? Once the furniture has reached the end of its lifespan, it’s a problem that we all face. It becomes an even bigger task when you’ve got hundreds of chairs, dozens of tables and a few sofas to dispose of.
To help, here are some of the best ways we recommend you get rid of your old business furniture.
Sell secondhand business furniture
As the old saying goes, one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure. There will be another restaurant nearby that will be willing to take some (maybe all) of the furniture off your hands, and pay a healthy sum for it, too. Depending on condition, you could make some good money from selling your used furniture which could then be used in your reinvestment.
List the furniture on eBay, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace.
Upcycle old commercial furniture
If you are unsure whether you really need new furniture, upcycling might be an option. As a possible project, chairs and tables can be painted and upholstered to give them a new lease of life. They can then be reused by yourself or rejuvenated solely to facilitate a sale.
In fact, we’ve previously spoken about how you can upcycle your wooden tables and chairs. Read about it here.
Donating furniture
Charities are always welcoming to donations, including your old furniture. But first, ensure that the furniture is in good enough condition. Use your judgment on whether that armchair is really suitable for a charity to sell on.
We practice what we preach, too. If we have any unused furniture in a suitable condition, we donate it to our local shelter charity. We recommend that our customers do the same once they’ve finished with them.
