The recent London Marathon will have put long-distance running back at the forefront of many people's minds, and coming almost at the midpoint of the year, it is the perfect opportunity to entice more joggers to use your facilities as a base, and your sports club furniture as a resting place.
Not all sports club members take part in activities on-premises, but the use of changing rooms, showers, and general club facilities can still make it worthwhile for them to remain a member.
This is highlighted each January with the annual rush of well-meaning New Year's Resolutions, when fitness clubs around the country typically see their membership surge.
But even with the halfway point of the year approaching, the London Marathon and equivalent long-distance runs up and down the UK help to put jogging back in people's minds as a possible pursuit to help them get into shape.
According to Mintel, London leads the way on jogging, with 34% of the city's residents regularly running, while the north-east is close behind on 33%.
In Wales participation rates are around 27%, the West Midlands and south-west score 24% and 23% respectively, the south-east and East Anglia 22%, East Midlands 20% and both Scotland and the Yorkshire & Humberside region score 19%.
Even the lowest of these rates show around one in five people regularly run as a form of exercise - and while many of those will set out from their own homes, it's still an activity worth capitalising on to boost your club membership.
The added bonus is that it's a totally scalable activity - you're not limited by the number of courts or pitches you have, as members can take to the streets, or to a local park or riverbank, and just return to base to relax in your sports club furniture at the end of their run.
And if you're lucky enough to have a swimming pool on your premises, you can cater for all three of the top individual fitness activities in the UK: walking (39%), swimming (27%) and jogging (24%) and tap into a market with a total estimated value of £1.2 billion.
