A new calendar year signifies the start of a new tourism cycle, so what are the major dates for 2017 that it's worth buying new hotel furniture for?
Monday January 2nd is the first official bank holiday of the year, as New Year's Day itself is on a Sunday, but after that nearly a third of the year passes before the next public holidays, Good Friday on April 14th and Easter Monday on April 17th.
As usual, they come thick and fast for a few weeks, with May Day falling actually on May 1st for once, and the Spring bank holiday on May 29th, before there's a lull throughout the summer - during which time hotels are likely to be at their busiest anyway.
The Summer bank holiday 2017 falls on Monday August 28th, and then again there's a gap of almost four full months before Christmas Day 2017 on Monday December 25th, and Boxing Day the following day.
North of the border, Scotland also celebrates St Andrew's Day as a public holiday on Thursday November 30th, a useful date in the run-up to Christmas for hoteliers in the country.
And Northern Ireland has two extra public holidays - one on Friday March 17th for St Patrick's Day, and one on Wednesday July 12th to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.
In England, St George's Day falls on Sunday April 23rd and, although it is not an officially recognised public holiday, it offers some opportunity to encourage extended bookings from Easter guests.
And St David's Day on Wednesday March 1st falls nicely in that first four-month gap between the official bank holidays, with good prospects for Welsh venues.
These are just the usual suspects on the calendar - there will also be Pancake Day, Bonfire Night and Halloween to plan events around, and no doubt several patriotic occasions like the Queen's birthday too.
When any major landmark date is approaching, it's worth giving your hotel furniture a onceover to check for any damage or any rooms in need of an extra place to sit, to give your guests a pleasant and memorable stay that allows them to celebrate in style.
