The craft beer revolution shows no signs of slowing down after new research has found that there are now over 2,000 breweries in the UK for the first time since the 1930s.
Research by UHY Hacker Young shows that the number of breweries in the UK has jumped 18 per cent in just one year (1,692 in 2015 to 1,994 in 2016). Over the last five years, the results are even more impressive; an increase of 64 per cent from the 1,218 in 2012.
What is a microbrewery?
A microbrewery produces amounts of beer that is typically much smaller than larger corporate breweries. Microbreweries are independently owned and are associated with an emphasis on quality, flavour and brewing technique.
he demand for craft beers has seen these beers sales soar in pubs. Many of the major breweries are even beginning to launch their own artisan-style brands because of the growing market.
Their growth has been down to the introduction of the tax break in 2002 that allowed breweries producing less than 5,000 hectolitres to pay 50 per cent less beer duty than their larger counterparts.
Using local breweries as customers
The demand is there from consumers, so it is up to pubs and bars to take advantage of the craft beer craze by providing a selection from local microbreweries. The price will be higher than more commercial breweries but there is a market for those willing to pay for a high quality beer. By having a small fridge full of some craft beer cans and bottles, you open yourself up to a new market whilst still having the more widely known beers on the draft.
Microbrewery furniture
Pubs that support local microbreweries are seen as a bit different to the ‘traditional’ pub that only has a small selection of beers from the larger breweries. They take the original and put their own spin on it. To reflect their uniqueness, pubs like this can choose differential furniture too.
Bentwood furniture would be an ideal choice for a pub looking for a traditional interior but with a modern twist. Browse and buy Bentwood furniture online.
