Members' club furniture is likely to see continued steady demand in the UK, as new research reveals many Britons are more optimistic about the current economic situation than you might imagine.
In a major survey conducted throughout Europe, Ipsos MORI has taken a measure of the mood in six EU countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Poland, to determine sentiment at ground level, rather than at government level or based on media reports.
Simon Atkinson, assistant chief executive of Ipsos MORI, writes: "It covers a lot of ground: our current mindset, our financial situation, our plans for the future; and it also reveals our expectations, looking at the role of individuals, companies, national governments and the European Union."
While UK headlines may have been dominated by issues like 'austerity' and 'double-dip recession' in months gone by, the study reveals Britons are actually bearing up well against the economic turbulence, and are showing the kind of spirit for which the country is famed.
In particular, many say they would be willing to work beyond the usual retirement age, in order to continue contributing to the economy for an extra one or two years; but by contrast, they would not be prepared to give up 3-4 days of their existing annual holiday.
The report adds that, in the UK, "we seem to have avoided meltdown", with Britons showing an above-average likelihood of being able to save some money at the moment.
Mr Atkinson adds: "They are less likely to have made cutbacks on household expenditure, or experience a 'life event' directly as a result of the crisis - such as having to move home. In this respect, the British have more in common with the Germans than the French, Spanish or Italians."
With Britons perhaps weathering the economic storm better than the media would have you believe, and keen to cling on to their free time, it is likely that members' clubs in particular are positioned well to continue to attract good levels of custom in the months to come.
By equipping your venue with comfortable club furniture, you can give your members every excuse to return again and again, and do your own part to boost the economy by making sure they keep spending in your establishment.
