Club furniture can be protected against water damage from burst pipes with a few simple measures over the coming winter months.
Although the end of 2011 proved to be unseasonably mild - with temperatures reaching double figures in many parts of the UK - the early months of 2012 could still bring colder conditions.
Guidance from the Association of British Insurers gives advice to homeowners on what to do in below-freezing temperatures, and applies equally well to owners and operators of clubs.
For instance, moving club furniture away from water pipes helps to reduce the risk of it becoming damaged if the pipe freezes and bursts.
Many items of club furniture can be relatively water resistant, particularly if that water is from the mains supply, rather than wastewater.
However, prevention is the best option - and leaving heating systems switched on during any particularly cold spells can help to reduce the risk of frozen and burst pipes.
Nick Starling, director of general insurance at the ABI, says: "When freezing weather arrives, so do frozen and burst pipes.
"Taking a few simple precautions, especially if you plan to be away during the winter, will greatly reduce the risk."
