Pub furniture is a deceptively diverse category, a crucial component in allowing the UK's many venues to be fitted out in a way that suits the structure they inhabit, whether it is a modern custom-built bar environment, a traditional 'village green' or city centre pub, or a refurbished older pub or other structure like a cinema or theatre.
In all of these different settings, the right pub furniture sets the scene for customers from the moment they walk through the door - and for those who are looking for something traditional, unusual, or simply with a strong sense of its own identity, that can help premises to stand out.
Britain's Beer Alliance are celebrating this diversity and strength of character in the recently launched There's a Beer For That campaign, which aims to remind Brits that - when consumed responsibly, of course - the sheer variety of British beers means there's one for almost every occasion.
The organisation says: "For such a tiny island, Britain is a very diverse place. From the peaks of Scotland to the port of Southampton, Britain is nothing if not diverse.
"We're a nation of surveyors, purveyors, builders and bankers. We're as varied as the beers of Britain, in fact. Our brewers and pubs do us proud."
In fact, there are more than 5,000 different beers to choose from that are brewed in the UK - from big brands to craft beers and small batches of ales, and seasonal flavours or limited edition recipes to add something new to the offering as well.
Pub furniture is similarly diverse, whether in terms of the different shapes available in a particular material - from something as simple as square, rectangular or round tables, to entire product families of sofas, chairs and matching stools - or in the unique uses of some of those materials.
For instance, bentwood furniture is now closely associated with pub furniture in many people's minds, and continues to this day a tradition of lovingly constructed chair backs with physics-defying sweeping curves made of single pieces of wood.
And finally, some items of pub furniture truly are not seen anywhere else - such as distinctive poseur tables, tall, round, often two-tiered tables that are unique to the public house environment.
