Banqueting furniture could be put to good use in pubs and brewery grounds across the country this March, as English Tourism Week is due to get underway on March 29th and last until April 6th, with pubs nationwide urged to host special events for the week.
The British Beer & Pub Association says pubs are at the very heart of what the UK offers to tourists, making them an important contribution to the weeklong line-up of celebrations.
Landlords and managers have been told to consider a range of different types of events, beginning with the old favourite of hosting a pub quiz; however, some of the alternatives could prove more lucrative, while also creating a greater sense of occasion.
For instance, the BBPA also suggests hosting 'special meals', which could take place either in your existing premises, or elsewhere on your grounds, with banqueting furniture one way to create an outdoor dining space if you are prepared to brave the British springtime weather.
Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the BBPA, said: "Beer and pubs are vital to tourism in the UK. Pubs are a beacon of hospitality, and English Tourism Week provides a real opportunity to remind the public and our parliamentarians of the vital role they play, both to our economy, and in providing careers and opportunities. I hope brewers and pubs will get behind it."
The event isn't just an excuse for a party, or to drum up some extra business - it is also an opportunity for publicans to speak directly with their MP about issues that might be affecting their profitability, or other red tape and legislation.
On April 4th it is Constituency Day, and the BBPA suggests that pubs should take the chance to invite their local MP to visit their premises and witness first-hand what the running of a pub is like.
There is also the possibility of inviting other local dignitaries - the BBPA suggests having the mayor come to pull a pint, for instance, along with council members and any other local VIPs who might be interested in coming along.
With suitable banqueting furniture, good food and drink, and a carefully chosen guest list, this is an ideal chance to start your spring-summer events schedule in style, while celebrating English heritage at its best.
