Choosing new club furniture doesn't have to be a hassle - but it's worth putting a bit of thought into it.
Do you opt for the closest match you can find to your existing club furniture, a straight swap of the worn-out chairs and tables with new equivalents?
Or do you aim instead for an update, a modern refresh of your previous furnishings to keep pace with developments in modern-day interior design?
The answer isn't necessarily the same for everyone - a club exists to look after its members, so put yourself in their shoes and try to imagine what they would prefer.
Fred Sirieix, general manager of the Galvin at Windows restaurant and bar, located 28 floors up in the Park Lane Hilton Hotel, says guests' desires should be a constant guiding light for those in hospitality.
"To look after people, you must be able to put yourself in the guests' shoes first - how do you know what they want otherwise?" he asks in an article for the Institute of Hospitality.
"As you meet and greet guests, consciously think about what they want, what they come here for and how you can make them feel special and please them."
There are perhaps few better opportunities to achieve this than to provide the right club furniture for members, giving them somewhere comfortable to sit as soon as they're through the door - and putting them in a positive frame of mind for the rest of their visit.
