An important addition to any restaurant furniture - and often to pub furniture too - is to have safe and secure high chairs for toddlers and young children brought to your premises for a sit-down meal.
Wooden high chairs, such as those often seen in a dark oak finish, can serve this purpose well, with a horizontal bar under which the child's legs are placed, and fabric straps to prevent them from slipping through the gap beneath this bar.
The result is a relatively simple to use, yet highly versatile addition to your restaurant furniture, or to complement your pub furniture if you run an establishment where young children are welcome to eat or simply to spend time with their family.
Of course, the aim of these seats is to safely accommodate very young customers while reducing - and hopefully eliminating - the risk of them falling from your furniture.
A recent article in the journal Brain Injury looked into traumatic falls by children, including falls from furniture alongside seven other types of falls: ground-level, down stairs, from a changing table, from a bed, from a stroller or baby carriage, from a piece of playground equipment, and from an adult's grip.
The researchers, based at several Israeli healthcare institutes, found the type of fall had little effect on whether or not there would be any traumatic findings on a later CT scan (TFCT for short).
And thankfully, they found a very low risk of clinically significant traumatic brain injury, defined as needing neurosurgery or even causing death - just one baby out of nearly 600 suffered this level of injury.
But out of 31 who had CT scans, TFCT was found in 17, and ten had linear skull fractures, highlighting the importance of preventing falls of any type in very young children.
"Most children who fall have a minor head injury, defined as a blunt head trauma that occurred in a patient who is conscious and responsive," the researchers write.
By making intelligent choices about your restaurant furniture or pub furniture when catering for families with children aged from birth to two years old, you can make sure those youngsters are kept safe throughout their time on your premises.
