Conference chairs have made a return to Saturday and Sunday night television with the audition stages of the new series of The X Factor.
Each episode sees hopefuls given their chance to perform in front of the judges - but with thousands of auditionees to get through, the holding area for each venue is a crucial part of the process too.
To keep everyone comfortable while waiting their turn, everybody gets a seat, and a view of a big screen to see what is happening in the audition room.
It's the place where viewers are introduced to many of the contestants for the first time, and a chance to see some immediate reactions from this ad hoc audience as they watch the auditions taking place.
Crucial to this are the conference chairs providing seating in the holding areas - and they prove the versatility of this kind of seating for a range of different purposes.
First of all, there's the obvious use of the chairs as a waiting area, in rooms that perhaps would not normally have seating available.
Then there's the way the rooms double as audience seating in front of the big screen, so contenders can watch what is happening in the auditions before their own.
But the footage also shows how easily people are able to move between the rows, with contestants moving around the room and production staff easily locating the next auditionee too.
Although you might not be hosting an event exactly like The X Factor, the show proves how versatile conference seating can be for all kinds of uses, and especially where you need a large number of chairs in a room that might not normally have them.
Stackable chairs can easily be moved around using a chair trolley, so stacks can be moved together, rather than carrying individual chairs from storage to where they are to be used.
And in a few weeks' time, seating will be centre stage for the Six Chair Challenge round of this year's The X Factor, possibly the highest-stakes incarnation of musical chairs ever seen on primetime weekend TV.
