February 14th is almost upon us, so how should you reconfigure your restaurant furniture for Valentine's Day?
It depends on what bookings you already have - and if you're in the lucky situation of being fully booked, then you have all of the information you will need to set out the right number of tables, whether they are reserved for couples or for larger groups.
Other restaurateurs face the one-off dilemma of how to cater for bookings from couples, while leaving their remaining restaurant furniture in a configuration suitable for walk-in custom.
Research from OnePoll might help to shed some light on this, as a massive 94% of singletons surveyed revealed they have no particular plans for Valentine's Day.
Of those who do already have plans, 7% will be working, 46% will be going out with friends, and 23% will be out on a date.
However, bearing in mind that only 6% of singletons have plans, that means that those heading out in groups represent less than 3% of the total population.
Among couples, many are still not planning to do anything special this February 14th - as was revealed by some 42% of those surveyed - and 28% plan to have a romantic meal at home.
Of course, on the day, many might change their minds and decide to go out instead - and 41% of people in relationships say being taken out for a meal is among the romantic gestures made by their partner.
What does all of this mean? Well, unless you have good reason to expect lone diners or groups of friends this February 14th, it probably means tables set for two are the best way to lay out your restaurant furniture.
Even if you don't already have bookings, couples are much more likely to walk in unplanned than single people or large groups - again, use your own knowledge of your customer base to decide if your establishment is an exception to this rule.
You may of course also want to consider whether you would want a large group booking on February 14th - as although they might be worth a sizeable amount in their own right, they could also have a significant negative impact on the romantic atmosphere you try to create for couples.
