In recent months we have looked at some of the developing trends shaping the hotel furniture market - such as the need to accommodate people's use of technology by placing a chair close to an electrical socket they can charge their devices from, and so on.
Mobile technology is driving the change in many industries at present and, as portable computing power grows, it continues to cannibalise battery lifespan - making it ever more important to be within easy reach of a charge point.
It's not only in the hotel furniture market where this is the case; increasingly coffee shop furniture and even pub furniture must be either close to an electrical outlet, or able to be moved easily and safely, when a customer wants to plug in and recharge.
Now the British Hospitality Association is working with media giants Sky to look towards the future of guest room provision throughout the UK, and determine what trends are likely to shape the market in the years to come.
BHA chief executive officer Ufi Ibrahim said: "Working together with Sky enables the BHA and its members to share knowledge, ideas and experience to help shape the future of in-room guest experience.
"Ultimately we want the UK to be renowned as the global industry leader for hospitality and tourism, and evolving the guest experience in hotels through innovation is a powerful and exciting next step."
Sky Business's deputy managing director Alison Dolan added: "By offering high-quality and flexible in-room entertainment, as well as sports and news, hoteliers can drive meaningful customer satisfaction, and this partnership provides the perfect platform to share, discuss and explore this potential."
In many cases this entertainment could ultimately be provided as an online on-demand service, rather than via broadcast television - and this again taps into the mobile computing trend that is shaping so many sectors at present.
By having the right hotel furniture in place, with easy access to charging points in each guest room, hoteliers can stay ahead of the curve on this trend, and be ready to make the most of the competitive edge they get from having rooms available that meet customers' evolving needs.
