A growing theme in recent years has been businesses making use of derelict spaces to create a quirky, contemporary atmosphere surrounding whatever the activity is. Spaces that were once considered unusable are now being revamped into contemporary venues whilst retaining the original features of the building or space.
An example of this is pop-up cinemas that screen films in unusual spaces such as car parks to give themselves a unique edge. This trend is also seen in the food and drink industry with many businesses transforming spaces across the UK.
Street Feast has been converting disused spaces in London into unique eating and drinking environments. Once transformed, the spaces bring street food, drinks and relaxed atmospheres to venues across London.
One of their venues is a warehouse in Canada Water named Hawker House. The space is open every Friday and Saturday but new furniture was needed for a special event put on called the Martini Weekender. The event focused on Italian food, drink and culture.
Inside the warehouse, the organisers created their own Caffe Torino that served cocktails and aperitifs. It was here that new stools and chairs were needed to match the theme. Ordered just two days before the event, Trent Furniture was able to provide a fast turnaround of 24 loopback side chairs and 20 tall bentwood stools.
“Trent Furniture had the variety and the items I was looking for. The items were also in stock, which was a big plus as I needed the items urgently,” explains Rick Weakley, owner of Street Feast. “Most suppliers of contract furniture carry little to no stock and that makes fast turnaround very difficult but Trent’s telephone sales team was quick, efficient and easy to work with.”
For the weekend, organisers created an Italian piazza for the weekend and welcomed some of London’s best Italian restaurants to cook alongside the regular street food traders. The centrepiece was, of course, the Italian themed bar with our furniture in the centre. Fantastico!
