The New Year is good news for pub furniture, as many people decide to eat more healthily or go on a diet to help make up for their over-indulgence during the Christmas period.
However, while losing a few pounds in weight might relieve the strain placed on pub furniture, bar managers and owners will be hoping to still see bums on seats as 2013 progresses.
Luckily, it seems many Britons still see their local pub as a key component both in their festivities over the Christmas period, and into the new year.
Figures from the British Beer & Pub Association show that around six million Britons - roughly one in eight of the population - headed to the pub on Christmas Day itself.
During December as a whole, an estimated 425 million pints of beer were sold - and beer can also help people to stick to their New Year's Resolution.
The BBPA explains that beer contains fewer calories than many other alcoholic drinks, helping to compensate for the higher calorie content of rich festive foods.
For those with festive treats still to use up, dark ales and bitters go well with cheese boards, while stout pairs perfectly with the rich flavour of Christmas pudding.
