Traditional red and white diner furniture will be in demand over the coming years, as American-style eateries are predicted to become the restaurant market's largest growth segment, putting an end to years of rapid expansion of Mexican venues.
Foodservice industry analysts Horizons issue their Ones To Watch report on a biannual basis, with forecasts for the UK market and for new and emerging brands with between five and 25 locations that have achieved 20% growth or more over the past three years.
In 2016, American-style businesses are performing strongly in the UK market, and this includes everything from American diners to smokehouses and barbecue pits, as well as less formal burger bars and donut shops.
The trend follows several years of US-style cuisine topping the growth charts too, such as gourmet burgers, American-style hot dogs and sticky barbecue pulled pork.
Analyst Nicola Knight said: "American casual dining certainly isn't new to the UK but we are seeing a steady resurgence in its popularity as operators have modernised and upgraded the concept.
"They appeal to a broad range of consumers, whether dining as a couple, a family or a group of friends. Not only that but they are good value, often offer a broad range of dishes of various cuisines, with friendly service and sophisticated marketing."
However, all is not lost for Mexican venues either, as the market for burrito brands is reaching maturity, and is in a state where established brands continue to expand well, but it is a little more difficult for new companies to compete on a large scale.
