Freshening up your hotel furniture, or the chairs and tables in your restaurant or bar, could be a good place to start if you're capitalising on the Holidays at Home campaign.
The VisitEngland promotion has been splashed across TV screens this month with a celeb-studded advertisement, encouraging more Brits to stay within the UK for their 2012 holiday.
Events like the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics have given the campaign a firm starting point, but the British Hospitality Association is urging businesses to make sure they contribute to the appeal of a domestic getaway for British residents this year.
"We need to use every means to encourage more British people to stay at home and enjoy what Britain has to offer," says BHA chief executive Ufi Ibrahim.
One relatively simple place to start is refreshing your seating with new bar and restaurant furniture, or adding new chairs and tables to your hotel furniture.
New leather furniture adds a stylish and luxurious touch to reception areas and hotel rooms alike, and is sturdy enough to last for a number of years.
Combined with low restaurant furniture like a shaker coffee table, it also provides an alternative to formal dining suites for eating areas.
