More than most industries, hospitality is one business in which staffing levels are closely linked with customer numbers - and that means as employment figures grow, more rooms and more hotel furniture are likely to be needed.
According to one newly published report, the British hospitality sector has the potential to create over a quarter of a million jobs, many of which have already been 'pledged' by employers.
Newly appointed minister for sport, tourism and equality Helen Grant MP said she was "blown away" when she saw the figures from the Deloitte study, which predicts a possible 300,000 new jobs by the end of the current decade.
Around 5,000 have already been pledged by 1,000 employers as part of the 'Big Conversation' campaign run by the BHA, with a further 15,000 apprenticeships due to be created across the industry as well.
"The commitment of the hospitality and tourism industry to creating jobs and supporting young people has been brought into sharp focus by the British Hospitality Association's Big Conversation," said Ms Grant.
"[The figures are] truly impressive, and it's initiatives like this which help to realise the potential outlined in today's report.
Deloitte's report forecasts growth of 3.8% each year between now and 2025 in the British tourism sector - which it adds has been responsible for a third of all new jobs created between 2010 and 2012.
But to underpin this growth in jobs, the industry is likely to need to expand in terms of the number of guests it accommodates too - and that will require more rooms and more hotel furniture to cater for those guests.
Hotels and guest houses might wish to pay particular attention to their communal areas such as bars, lounges and dining rooms, to ensure that these grow in accordance with the addition of new rooms to the premises.
Putting in place a good selection of comfortable seating that is easy to reconfigure for different sizes of group is a must if these shared spaces are to perform their function well and serve future guests, whatever their expectations of your property might be.
