The coming few years could be a peak time for investments into health and fitness club furniture, with consumer analysts at Mintel forecasting strong growth in membership figures through to 2020.
According to the analyst, 20% more Brits will be members of private health and fitness clubs by the end of the decade - a '20 by 2020' target for the industry to work towards.
This compares with modest growth in the first half of the decade, which saw membership rise by just 1% nationwide.
An estimated 5.4 million people currently use private health and fitness clubs, but this is predicted to hit 6.5 million by 2020, an increase that could drive many venues to invest in extra health and fitness club furniture.
David Walmsley, senior leisure analyst at Mintel, said: "We're expecting continuing growth in the number of health and fitness clubs across the UK to make these venues more accessible to more people over the next five years."
The report notes that 12% of Britons are already members of a club, with 52% visiting theirs three or more times a week and a further 35% going once or twice.
This leaves just 11% of the current membership who use their gym membership less than once a week, flying in the face of the perception that many people start with good intentions but fail to stick to them.
A healthy 27% of those surveyed who were not already a member of a club said they would think about joining in the future - an indication of the potential scale of the market if even a minority of this group can be persuaded.
Scalability can be factored into your health and fitness club furniture purchases too - with folding tables and stacking chairs that can be packed away when you need more space for activities.
