What do you look for when buying a new home? Surprisingly for many people, the comfort of their local restaurant furniture could be almost as important as their own sofa at home.
Product comparison site Gocompare carried out a survey of what people consider to be 'must have' features when looking for a new property - and in many cases the most important factors are not to do with the house itself at all.
A few home comforts and security measures top the list - 78% of people want some form of central heating, and 73% look for secure windows and doors, with 72% expecting double glazing.
But further down the list, other amenities start to make an appearance, including local broadband speeds (70% of people expect 2 Mbps or more) and the reliability of the mobile phone signal (a priority for 56% of people).
And narrowly behind in 11th place overall, 55% of people value the local shops and other amenities such as cafes, restaurants and so on.
That's more than the 52% who care about whether or not their neighbours are friendly, suggesting that the local restaurant furniture is more likely to play host to the average family than next door's sofa is.
And even further down the list, some of the features that aren't important to even half of people could come as a surprise too.
For instance, only one in four people care if the burglar alarm works, just 14% want a fireplace, and a relatively tiny 13% want to know whether the local schools are highly rated or not - perhaps because not everybody in the survey was a parent.
So it seems that comfort is a leading factor, with security coming slightly further down the list - people want homes that are warm and spacious, with plenty of other venues within easy reach of their doorstep.
The same principles apply to your restaurant furniture, and good choices will always combine sturdy construction with a comfortable seat and ergonomic design.
Leave plenty of space around your tables so diners don't feel cramped, and your venue will soon seem like a home from home, keeping happy customers coming back time and time again.
